Tips for The Best Broiled Salmon

This broiled salmon fillet is a must-try! With a marinade made of common ingredients found in your fridge, it is perfect for any night of the week.

One of the best parts of this salmon is that is doesn’t take long for the marinade to soak into the fillet. There is no need to marinade overnight, just gently toss to evenly coat and you can have this healthy and flavorful meal on the table in under 30 mins!

For an even quicker meal, select thinner salmon fillets as those will cook faster than the thicker fillets.

Ingredients & Variations

SALMON Fresh salmon is always a good option when broiling fillets but if using frozen defrost it fully in the refrigerator so the marinade can soak into the meat properly before cooking.

To help seal in the flavor and moisture choose a fillet that has the skin still on one side. This will also provide a “safety-layer” between the fillet and the hot baking sheet to prevent it from overcooking!

MARINADE This marinade uses lemon juice to tenderize the fillet and to help infuse the flavors! While the olive oil gives it a moist succulent texture. You can toss in some red chili flakes for some heat or try adding garlic or ginger for a savory twist. The options are endless!

How To Broil Salmon

When broiling salmon it will change from translucent (red or raw) to opaque (pink) as it cooks.

  1. MARINADE: combine marinade ingredients and gently toss with salmon.
  2. BROIL: broil skin side down until cooked (per recipe below).

If the meat is beginning to flake, but still has a little translucency in the middle, it is done. It should not look raw!

Allow salmon to rest after removing from oven so the juices are sealed in.

How Long To Broil Salmon

8 to 12 minutes is the average time to broil salmon, but be sure to check for doneness before the 10-minute mark or sooner.

Whether you bake or broil, you can tell salmon is cooked by taking a peek at the thickest part of the filet. Use a sharp knife to see if the flesh has turned from translucent to opaque.

What To Serve With It

Salmon lends itself perfectly to oven-roasted veggies and a light, crisp salad. Here are some favorites that go with broiled salmon.

Reheating…

Salmon can be reheated in the microwave or the oven, both create a tender flaky filet.

  • Microwave: Place it in the microwave on a dish alongside a saucer of water. The water will create steam and reheat the fish gently, without overcooking it.
  • Bake: Wrap it in foil and bake about 15 minutes in a 350°F.

But the best way to reheat leftover salmon is to make it into a whole new dish like Salmon salad or even salmon croquettes! Bon appétit!
